Message from the President
I am happy to greet you in the mighty name of our LORD and Saviour, Jesus Christ. It has been over 50 years since the AAMC celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1972. This is our 76th year of existence; I will explain below, AAMC is still operating. The organization went through many challenges, but I am excited to report that AAMC is doing well and progressing. Through the Civil War in Liberia, the returning home of all the missionaries to avoid certain peril; the ravaged Bopolu Bible Mission (BBM) campus due to the civil war, and the resurrection of operations through the initiatives of children raised on the mission, who have now become adults; God has kept the mission alive.
The celebration of our 75th Anniversary is of particular significance not only because of the events described above, but also, the scheduled celebration in 2022 was delayed until this year (2023), due to the world-wide pandemic. Thus, I repeat, “I am overjoyed to report that AAMC continues to operate BBM in Liberia, West Africa.”
Despite the deaths of many of our leaders (listed below and in AAMC’s 25th Anniversary Souvenir Booklet, we have been able to forge ahead with new leaders both on the AAMC Board and BBM. AAMC hoped to create a 50th Anniversary Souvenir Booklet, but the lack of both personnel and financial resources made it impossible. But we thank God for the Board members who have rallied to bring this 75th anniversary in our 76th year to reality. Below I have listed the individuals that labored faithfully in the mission vineyard. The founder, Rev. Montrose Waite, passed August 2023.
Ten missionaries: Dottie Evans. Daphne M. Henderson, Wenona Jennings, Betty Quimby, **Wilfred Quimby, Martha Thompson, *Jean Thorpe, Rev. **W. Kenneth Thorpe, ** Rev. Andrew D. Trusty, and *Emma Marie Trusty, .
*Living ; ** Field Directors
Five Presidents: Rev. Ernest L. Wilson Sr, Rev. William O. Jackson, Dr. Harvey P. Davis, Rev. Charles H. Dawson, Donald Dennis, and Rev. W. Kenneth Thorpe.
Four Board Members: Mathew Johnson (a charter member), Rev. Andrew D. Trusty, Rev. Oliver Drummonds, and John H. Holley (Treasurer).
You will see from the brief historical sketch (in this booklet) of the last 75 years that GOD, who began the “good work” at BBM through the efforts of the deceased is (and we trust will continue) performing it “to the day of Jesus Christ” (a paraphrase of Phil. 1:6.). May God continue to bless this work.
In His Service,Dr. Jesse Paul Clay, President
